“In 1853 Levi Strauss, a Bavaria immigrant, opened a dry goods business in San Francisco during the California Gold Rush. While he was still working, he noticed a demand among hardworking people for clothing that would withstand any kind of weather. Jacob Davis, a tailor, combined copper rivet reinforcements and tough denim to create the first ever manufactured waist overalls. This was in 1873. We call them “blue Jeans” today.

“What started out as an invention by the American worker, became the uniform for progress. Worn by miners, cowboys, rebels, rock stars, presidents and everyday men and women, these functional pieces were the clothes people not only worked in—they lived their lives in, too. But Levi’s® are more than that. They’re the purest wearable form of authentic self-expression.

“They bear the marks and shapes of life, our bodies, our memories, our adventures. Levi Strauss & Co. is one of the world’s largest apparel companies and a global leader in
Jeans. Our products are sold in over 100 countries and we have approximately 500 stores around the world. The Levi’s® brand is just part of our story. We’re also home to Dockers® and Denizen®.”

“Levi Strauss & Co. is an American clothing company known worldwide for its Levi’s brand of denim jeans. It was founded May 1853, when a German-Jewish immigrant, Levi Strauss, moved from Bavaria’s Buttenheim to San Francisco, California to open a west coast division of his brothers’ dry goods business in New York. The corporate headquarters of the company is in San Francisco’s Levi’s Plaza, despite being registered in Delaware.

German-Jewish immigrant Levi Strauss opened his trading company at the 90 Sacramento Street address in San Francisco. He then moved the location the 62 Sacramento Street. In 1858, the company was listed as Strauss, Levi (David Stern & Levis Strauss) importers clothing, etc. 63 & 65 Sacramento St. (Today, on the current grounds of the 353 Sacramento Street Lobby) in the San Francisco Directory with Strauss serving as its sales manager and his brother-in-law, David Stern, as its manager.

“Jacob Davis, a Latvian-Jewish immigrant, was a Reno, Nevada tailor who frequently purchased bolts of denim cloth from Levi Strauss & Co.’s wholesale house. He had an idea to use copper rivets as a way to strengthen the points of strain such as at the button fly’s base and pocket corners. Davis was unable to afford a patent and suggested that Strauss and he start a joint venture. Strauss accepted Davis’s offer and on May 20, 1873 the men were granted U.S. Patent 139.121 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Later, the patented rivet was incorporated in the company’s advertisements and jean designs. (Wikipedia)

“OK, let’s start by saying that the store was spotless and that everyone in it was friendly from the greeter to those at the register. You should stop by Levi’s to get some great basic t-shirts.

“Seriously, the best customer service I have ever received in a shop. Everywhere you look, people are offering help. “What size? That’s what I will do. The same thing downstairs. Some t-shirts were brought.

“Great store with friendly staff. There is a lot of inventory. It’s a great place with a lot of inventory. If you are in Times Square, I recommend stopping by. They offer more than jeans to choose from.

“I was surprised at how helpful and friendly all of the staff were. They also knew when I should shop. They also had several check-out stations that made it easy to get in or out. Great experience!”

“This Levi’s store is the best I’ve ever seen. It is right in the middle Times Square. The store is very large, but it is well organized and clean. It is easy to find your way around the store and the staff are very friendly. During my three-day New York trip, I visited the store twice. Both times were excellent.

Visit this store if you have the opportunity to visit Times Square. We have been back several times and found the staff to be helpful. We bought 5 pairs of jeans together for less than the cost of 2 in the UK. To see the reduced stock, go to the back (left-hand side). Very tidy store.”

This place provides great service. Staff are very friendly and helpful with sizes & inform you of any offers available.”

“I was there with friends. I didn’t want to buy anything. But there was a 50% discount. My best fitting jeans were only $12.50 The fit was amazing. Despite the rush, sales staff were friendly and helpful.”

“Great shop and great deal. Paying about £25 for a pair of buttoned 501s. You can’t go wrong so I bought 5 pairs.

We were amazed at the low prices in Levis stores compared to Australia. The staff was so kind and helpful that we left with four pairs of jeans as well as a denim jacket. It cost less than the price of one pair of Levis.

“I purchased Jeans and a top. The variety of products is great and the staff was friendly.
